Why InstantPots are Worth the Hype

I was always afraid of pressure cookers. I remember my grandma using it to cook, especially for beans, and tell me not to touch it or go near the stove. I had this idea that pressure cookers were a ticking time bomb, ready to explode. That was until I discovered the InstantPot. It was a pressure cooker that had a manual, and a lot of safety features. I have grown to love the InstantPot and understand all of the Facebook groups, websites, and cookbooks dedicated to this particular kitchen tool. So what is it, and why is it great?
An Instant Pot is a type of electric pressure cooker that can be used to cook a wide variety of dishes quickly and easily. It uses high pressure to cook food faster than other cooking methods, and it has several functions, including a slow cooker, a rice cooker, and a steamer.
There are several reasons why Instant Pots are so great. Here are a few:
  1. Speed: One of the main benefits of using an Instant Pot is that it cooks food faster than other methods. This can be especially helpful if you're short on time or if you want to cook a meal quickly.
  2. Convenience: Instant Pots are convenient and easy to use. They have a user-friendly control panel that allows you to set the cooking time and temperature, and they have automatic keep-warm and delay-start functions, so you can prepare your meal in advance and have it ready when you need it.
  3. Versatility: Instant Pots are versatile and can be used to cook a wide variety of dishes, including soups, stews, casseroles, and even desserts. They also have multiple functions, so you can use them as a slow cooker, a rice cooker, or a steamer, depending on your needs.
  4. Browning capability: Instant Pots have a sauté function, so allows you to brown meats and vegetables before pressure or slow cooking.. all in one pot.  This is a key step to building flavor in a dish, and is a big downside to slow cookers- to achieve this you'd have to brown in a dish and transfer to a slow cooker, which then becomes more steps when you want  a shortcut.
  5. Healthy: Instant Pots can be a healthy option, as they allow you to cook with less fat and oil, and they help to retain the nutrients in your food. Plus, by cooking your own meals, you can control the ingredients and portion sizes, which can help you to eat a healthier diet.
Overall, Instant Pots are a convenient and versatile kitchen tool that can make cooking easier, faster, and healthier.
